The scam here would be the customer grabbing the food before the delivery driver, then the delivery driver is no longer able to pick the order up. So the customer calls and reports the order was never delivered and gets a refund when they already got the food too.
As I documented in another thread, this is 100% a scam. The scammers appear to be following a script, including claiming that the order is fraudulent or that the card used was fraudulent. NEVER NEVER NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR PASSWORD. The scam, simply put, is that the customer picks up their own delivery order. The customer orders a delivery through door dash right outside the restraunt and puts a $0 tip so no actual drivers will pick up the order too quickly. When the order is ready, they either pose as a driver or pose as a self pick-up to get their food.

Car failure is one of the reasons a dasher can give doordash to explain why a delivery can't/won't be completed. Delivery companies seem to find that reason the most forgivable.
