Missoula's spring is usually 2 or 3 weeks ahead of Bozeman's. Bozeman has bigger mountains for hiking but Missoula has rafting/floating pretty much right downtown. IMO the best resort skiing nearby is Lost Trail (best terrain, least crowded, cheapest). There's decent BC all over but it depends on how much you want to skin and whether or not you want sled access. Lolo Pass, the Bitterroots, The Missions, are all good options.
