Free Archetype does open up the opportunities a bit. But by level 10 you have your normal reaction, a dedicated shield block reaction, and a dedicated AoO reaction. You have the powerful champion reaction. Not to mention your Divine Ally Shield, which can take a beating. Probably 1 use of Lay of Hands.

I would say worth it. I mean, Falcata is still one of the better 1H weapons even if you aren't a fighter. 1d8 base is pretty much the top-end in damage for a thaumaturge, so it works out fine. You lose out on a weapon with some other, more useful traits (such as Trip) in return for raw damage, so its ideal if your focus wants to be damage.
