Bleh. Ability score damage isn't a big issue. Numerous different classes can learn the lesser restoration spell early which will cure it a few points at a time and scrolls and potions for it are also sold by merchants. It was infinitely worse in Kingmaker where it happened far earlier, before you even had access nor funds for those things.
