Malekith himself has great campaign map buffs, rather than battle ones. He is, however, one of the best hybrid melee/caster there is in the game. He can get any decent army composition and win with it very easily. Redline skills have an interesting early-mid game compositions, but lacks some good synergy later on.

I wouldnt reccomend upgrading magic on Malekith. Power of darkness is amazing coupled with a fire mage, you dont need malekith to spend winds of magic himself.
