First off, that is a 1985 "XR2" model. Many parts are still available from a Merc dealer. Unfortunately, the t/t pump motor (and most of the assembly) has been long discontinued. You could however, retrofit a later model design, but will likely require changing the entire unit, not simply bolting on another trim motor.Jul 15, 2010. #14. Will crank, time you hit the starter. Let it set for hour or two and overnight you will have to spray gas in carbs to get it to crank.

ReI have an 84 black Max 150 xr2. To make a long story short, I had an oil line sever while out one day. Didn't know that was the problem, but suddenly sounded bad, got low on power, and cut off. I was drifting toward a dam, so I got it to fire up and drove half a mile to the truck.

I have a Mercury Back Max XR-2 150hp. Serial No 0A166611. When I purchased it the gent said the it ran fine one season then wouldn’t run properly the next. I thought, great I like a project. I took it to my local boat mechanic who told me that the timing was advanced to make it idle at 2000rpm. Got it fixed to as best that they could at the time.
