Does anyone know how much a `87 Black Max XR2 150 hp outboard weighs ?? A friend got two seized cylinders due to a fouling carb. He wants to replace it with a newer outboard. He has been thinking about a `01 Mercury Optimax 225 hp outboard. But he is abit anxious about the weight-difference on those two outboards.First off, that is a 1985 "XR2" model. Many parts are still available from a Merc dealer. Unfortunately, the t/t pump motor (and most of the assembly) has been long discontinued. You could however, retrofit a later model design, but will likely require changing the entire unit, not simply bolting on another trim motor.Re: Mercury Alarm Codes, 89 150 Hp Black Max. Newer is better, of course, and if you replace a 4 inch lower with a 4.5, you'll need a different prop.
