OK, went to co-workers with a 2010 Impala LT and swapped his vent and purge valves to the 2008 to remove any doubt and still have the same issue erase codes, says 0 codes found after erasing, read again same P0449 code found. With battery cable disconnect I tried before, I can't see it being the OBD scanner at fault (it is fairly old).
Today put my code reader on it and got the code P0449 in the stored codes and P0455 in the pending codes.
