There is 12V to the positive side of the coil. The points do have fire.Columbus, IN. Tractor. 2012 JD X310. First time posting, long time reader. Problem at hand: JD X310 cranks, but no spark. Sep 7, 2007 · The primary coil reading should be between 3.7 ohms and 4.6 ohms while the secondary (spark plug side) should be between 34.2 k-ohms and 41.6 k-ohms. If the resistance values you measure are outside of these ranges, you need to replace the coil. I'm having the same type of problem on a 318 with the P218G engine.

May 7, 2010 · Well now it flat out won't run. Starter cranks, fuel is going to carb, no spark. Tested the coil and both sides check ok. When testing the control module (red lead to coil -, black lead to engine ground, jumper from battery + to coil +) the voltage stays at battery voltage; it doesn't swing between 1 volt and 12 as I turn the flywheel by hand ... Since the machine stopped mowing first, then wouldn't start, that switch may be the culprit. Also, sparks at the battery mean a bad connection there or a dead short! I changed out the choke cable the other evening and after finishing, tried to start it. The choke works fine, but it acted like there was no spark. I bought a spark tester, the kind that allows you to hook it up to the plug wire and ground the other end. Customer called and said her 318 stalled out and would not start again. Turned out to be a pretty easy fix, maybe this is what is causing yours not to start ...Chuckv.
