You can remedy this by cleaning the IR sensor with a soft cloth, in cases where you notice damage, you may need to get a new remote for your TiVo box.

Blinking LEDs of Death....fixed. I tried to update firmware to 1.5.whatever it is and got the 5 LEDs of Death after the firmware updater hung - I let it sit for almost an hour. Amp was unusable for anything. Factory reset didn't work, it didn't do anything at all. The firmware updater was showing the latest firmware version but no serial number.
