Braking down the grade toward bottom of grade transmission down shifted to 2nd gear and rpm was ~4700. Pulled over and truck went into 1st gear. Pulled out and would not shift out of 1st. Limped back to the house about 7 miles in 1st. P0218 is a fluid temp issue. P0988 is also a fluid pressure issue. The last 3 will most likely be caused by the first. You can't get it to work in any gear other than 1st when you start from a stop and 4th. That's what limp mode is. The truck is protecting what's left of the transmission. Ive had a similar problem in a chevy. In my instance the shifter actually jumped out of the grooves between the shift forks. You can take the console off around the shifter and pull the boot up and take the four bolts loose that hold the shifter to the tranny. when you pull up the shifter you will see the grooves that the shifter is supposed to go in.One common cause of gear shifting problems in a Dodge Ram is issues with the transmission fluid.
