I was looking into 9mm barrels as well and was told that reliability was an issue with the 9mm round and the heavier 10mm slides. Might be some truth to it or they would likely be more readily available.

You would do better using 357 Sig if you want to shoot the 9mm bullets from your 10mm and they will work from the standard magazines just like the 10mm the 40's do.
